Be Aware and Alert
To be aware means to have knowledge or to be conscious of something. To be alert means to be mindfully watchful, ready or cautious. NYSDOT employees are to be aware that transportation assets are logical targets for a variety of potential threats. Threats to NYSDOT assets include but are not limited to:
NYSDOT employees are to be aware of the tactics used by criminals and terrorists and to be alert and watchful for criminal and/or terrorist activities.
Petty crimes such as vandalism occur frequently against transportation assets. Terrorist attacks do not. Although terrorist attacks are less frequent, the associated impact is typically much greater than that of lesser crimes. TSAT primarily focuses on the potential threat of terrorism with the idea that the materials covered apply to the entire range of criminal threats.
