Course Introduction

Topics covered in TSAT include:

Employee safety and security is of primary importance to the New York State Department of Transportation. Therefore, all employees, regardless of location or job function, are required to take Transportation Security Awareness Training (TSAT). The TSAT course does not alter your primary job responsibilities. Your day-to-day job activities will not change as a result of this course. Although TSAT uses historical examples which may be emotionally difficult, its purpose is not to elicit fear or stress. The purpose of TSAT is to increase your awareness and to help you protect yourself and others.

TSAT is considered successful when you know what to do and what not to do when faced with a suspicious situation. For example:

That is, people who work or live in an environment know it best and are most able to recognize something "odd" or "out-of-place." Your efforts enhance but do not replace traditional security practices.

TSAT is approximately 45 minutes in length.
