The law and regulations require a method by which the agency will address each specific risk identified in the workplace risk evaluation and determination.
- What are the specific methods and measures your agency/location has implemented for each of the identified risks
- What are the measures employees can take to protect themselves
- Are there different measures for different work location types, such as office, field, or secure facilities
The Department has researched possible solutions to identified safety risks and, where practical and consistent with budgetary and other restraints, implemented measures to reduce identified risks. Such measures include:
- Working with OGS or, for leased space, landlords to install and maintain adequate lighting in facilities occupied by the Department;
- Space planning and “restacking” efforts which limit isolated work stations;
- Limiting building and office suite access via a badge ID system;
- Periodically reminding employees not to allow entry for those who seek access to any given suite without a valid ID;
- Reviewing business processes to control cash on hand;
- Identifying measures to reduce customer wait times;
- Where available, work with building security personnel to limit access of persons who have been identified as a potential threat;
- Provision of cell phones to field personnel;
- Periodically reminding employees of the need to safeguard their valuables or to leave valuables at home;
- Ensuring that staff is aware of a potential visit by an agitated customer, employee or family member;
- Encouraging employees to walk with others to and from parking lots and garages;
- Encouraging field staff to be aware of dangers which may exist in areas in which they conduct business;
- Considering the feasibility of workstation relocation for employees who are in conflict with others; and
- Conducting training and provide informational materials to educate staff about risks of workplace violence and methods to mitigate risks.
