Internal controls are about doing the right things, performing the right mission, and planning strategically.

Question to Ask Yourself

If Answered Properly

Is my unit performing functions that contribute directly to achieving the unit's objectives?
Your unit is achieving the needed results in the best way.
Have I made needed improvements where they need to be made?

You are addressing processes that have the highest vulnerability:
  • Area IV - Most Concern
  • Area III - Moderate Concern
  • Area II - Minimal Concern
  • Area I - Least Concern
Am I operating as efficiently as possible?
Your entire staff is fully engaged in meaningful work that is appropriately assigned, and you have adequate assurance that the work is being done properly.
