Discovering Your Contribution

Yesterday, I attended a NYS Leadership conference. It got me thinking as I was driving into work today and I began to wonder, "Just what is my department's purpose? Why do we do what we do?" At the stop light, it occurred to me, we don't just publish magazine courses, we serve New York State employees - we serve you.

What we do is more than just putting words and pictures on the screen – what we do is support you so that you can do your jobs more effectively and efficiently. When we do our jobs well, you are more successful at what you do, you enjoy your work more, and all New Yorkers benefit through better service and greater value for their tax dollars. In order for my department to be successful, my employees need to understand this purpose as well - and believe in it.

So my questions for you are:

Think about it.
